Film or Digital

The choice of format to use in architectural photography used to be limited to 35mm, 120mm, and 4x5 film. Now, with the growth of digital photography and the scarcity of labs, digital is our format of choice. For us at SHI, this decision was an easy one. We are very happy with the results we are getting shooting with the Canon EOS 1DS MARK II.

Since 2005 we have produced all of our assignments digitally, first with the Canon EOS 1DS and then it's replacement the 1DS MARK II. We feel this camera system gives us the technology needed for our client's desires. With these two cameras, we have produced more than 250 jobs and delivered more than 7900 finished files to our clients.

We have found that shooting digitally will often allow us to use fewer lights as we are more able to utilize existing lighting conditions. In many cases, this allows us to produce more shots in a day of shooting than we were previously able to do with film.
